  1. i actually think it can because more people are getting sky and theyre now showing highlights on bbc2. if the rlwu was shown on channels 1-5 then it possible that rugby league can come as popular as rugby union in england.

  2. I think you will find, that the Heineken (RU)Cup had far more viewers than the RLWC did, when they were televised at the same time...........I think that answers your question!

  3. no. but now that I have watched some legue, I quite enjoy it, so legue has picked up a new fan.  I now watch both union and legue.  By the way, since I am in the USA, legue can outdo union simply by getting the sport on regular tv.

  4. WHAT!!??? How dare you even ask such an insane question? RL is a crazy spin-off from rugby, almost as crazy as NFL and Aussie rules football. I bet William Webb Ellis is tossing and turning in his grave at all this foolish and barbaric activity going on . You ought to be ashamed of yourself young man! The insult of it all!

  5. Nah. Outside of the British Isles Rugby League is practically unheard of in the northern hemisphere. Its slowly gaining momentum in France but its a slow process (as most things are with league fans) The Irish rugby league side is made up mostly of Australians whose grandmas brothers cousins friend knew someone who was Irish. And who aren't good enough to play for Australia.

Rugby league's bedrock fan base in England is toothless working class northerners who cant grasp the concept of kicking for territory instead of running lemming-like straight into (admittedly hard) tackles and bizarrely see Union as

    'a fookin southern poofs game'.

League is was and will always be a poor spin off of rugby union.

  6. Not a chance, I play union and do watch league, but it really isn't as popular as union and that's the bottom line. Yes it will draw the crowds and people will tune in and watch it but there isn't as many nations, not as many people play league compaired to union.                  And for that person who wrote union is or boys and league is for men. Cmon when league is as popular and has as many players and supporters then u can make those comments. Besides it doesn't take much skill to play the game just fitness, and rolling a ball through your legs and shoulder charging trying to put someone in hospital that ain't sport that's a thug LOL seriously.

  7. i dont think so! but not because union is better but because the english will be wonderin why the h**l the player isnt trying to do a drop goal! union is for boys league is for men!

  8. No cuz not many countrys play it because  rugby league is way way to tough. Its the most physical and fitness game u can play

  9. Er....no.

  10. it is a long way from being as  popular at international level as union, but it never ceases to amaze me how many union fans are along for the ride to be in with the in crowd and do not even understand the game, however the seeds have been sown, it is a far more entertaining game than union and more watchable which is why it is slowly but surely gaining bigger and wider audiences!

  11. I remember in 1995 when the rugby league world cup was on tv and i did enjoy watching it.  However over the next say 10 years, i wasnt even sure if there was still a RLWC cos ive never seen it on tv since.  Ive seen the last few union world cups on tv and in my honest opionion it is far greater.  However saying that i do like i said enjoy also watching the rugby league.  As for the 2 games, union is far more popular and played in more countries around the world than the league is.  Its strange that also in some countries like papua new guina, they play the league instead of the union. not many countries are in favour of playing both but i do know england and australia are good at both. but to answer your question then NO its got no chance of being as popular and i know some people who arent even sure of their being 2 different types of rugby

  12. -Don't live in England, but I'd think RLWC would be.

  13. CANT SAY AS POPULAR AS ITS MORE OF A NORTHERN SPORT IN ENGLAND, AND MANY GAMES WILL BE TOO ONE SIDED CANT LOOK PAST AUSTRALIA, ENGLAND OR NEW ZEALAND TO WIN... SCOTLAND GOT BEAT BY LEBANON!!  IN THE REPECHAGE. BUT WE WILL SEE A SACK FULL OF TRIES JAMIE PEACOCK IS A MACHINE GLAD HES ENGLISH

  14. please , no

  15. 1st the domestic game needs to be premoted and televised throughout the uk, not just up north where its such a success.

  16. No chance at all ..

League rates well below rugby in England .. The league world cup is just a farce . Very few countries play League at any serious level and the game draws nowhere near the interest that union does either in England or anywhere else except maybe die hard followers in Australia where league is more popular than union ..

  17. Let's hope not for poor England's sake. They already have so few quality backs. And they might all leave to play league where they actually get the chance to run around for a bit.

Too bad league sucks. It's overrated rubbish for people who want manufactured excitement.

  18. no it won't be as popular (i watch/play both) for some reason people like to watch a game of tennis played with a rugby ball instead of rugby

megan get a grip, if a shoulder charge is being a thug can you explain to me where the skill is in scraping your studs down a blokes back?.

for big kid below - admittedly the irish is mainly made up of foreigners, but could you please let me know where alot of the all black r.u. side where born, e.g. cook islands, samoa, fiji- poor arguament, and if i wanted to see teams kick for territory i would watch soccer!!
