  1. the economy is effecting every one in some way. i have not been working by choice but i am fixing to have to go back to work because of it. my fiance has a great job and makes about 40,000 a year but lately we find ourselve struggeling. he works out of town which means a heck of a commute about an hour each way so he spends about 400 a month in gasoline. we eat out less. cook more less expensive food items like pasta, instead of going out to movies we download them to watch together. our next plans involve him joining the airforce. there are many advantages to that and he already works for the department of defence so he will be going the same thing for less so we will have to cut back even more. but the benefits like base housing, military discounts on insurance houseing and more having the gi bill to pass along to our children one day and every thing else will make it worth while. also being with the military we will be able to travel and go places we could have never afforded on our own.

but as far as today goes we have cut back on the extras and hope things get better. eggs here are 2.50 a dozen milk is 5.00 a gallon bread is 2.75 a loaf ground beef 3.98 a pound we dont do with out but we live with in our means. i dont live in an area where it is difficult to get thing either just the price of every thing is increasing making it difficult for every day people.

  2. ~~My husband and son own their business, which is pool construction and we are definitly affected big time! People are not able to get loans for swimming pools, so of course jobs are scarce. We have cut back on everything, and our only two luxuries are cable TV and our modem. We live in California where the cost of living is very expensive (we are taxed to death), so times are very hard! We just keep plodding along, hoping we can ride this out. It's very bleak, looking ahead to the future!~~

  3. The housing 'crisis' has not affected us because we dont own a home thank goodness. Much easier.

Also the gas prices are what they are in many other countries. SOME  ( not all ) are  whining about it because now they cant eat the extra 3,000 calories and drink 4 lattes a day because they have to use it for gas and REAL FOOD. The people who live within their means and those who are really struggling, already are familiar with logical spending. Not wasting it on some new stupid IPhone or some such nonsense.

  4. 1.GROCERIES ARE EXPENSIVE.

    2. 70 BUCKS A WEEK TO FILL MY TANK

    3. I LIVE IN THE COUNTY WITH THE HIGHEST SALES TAX IN THE U.S.

    4. MY NEIGHBORS CAN'T KEEP THEIR HOMES.

  5. The obvious answer would be that I'm paying WAY more for gasoline now than I ever used to, and since I commute 100 miles each day, this is hitting me hard. Additionally, all of our groceries and so forth have increased in prices because trucking companies are charging more for their services.

In theory, gasoline prices are not strictly related to the slumping economy, but I mentioned it because I have less money in my bank account regardless of the actual reason.

Also, the business that I work for is related to construction, which IS facing hardships due to the mortgage crisis. We have less work, and we also have to pay more for gasoline to keep our service trucks on the road. The owner of our business gripes CONTINUALLY about the lack of money coming in and the extra money going out for raised prices.

So far they have not discussed lay-offs, but if they do, I assume I'll be in consideration because I'm one of the last hired.

That would be a serious problem for me due to the slumping economy! But at least I'd get the kick in the butt I'd need to find a job closer to home.
