Referring to A.J.'s question a year ago, are water bottle caps still made of a different plastic that contaminate the rest of the bottles when melted? Have there been any changes in water bottle manufacturing a year later?

F.Y.I. : We single stream recycle plastic, glass, aluminum and paper in our hotel, and recycle cardboard. lightbulbs, and ewaste as well.

  1. If the caps are white while the bottle is not, they are still a problem for recycling.

We really need to switch from recycling water bottles to reusing them... Each person keeps their own reusable bottle, keeps it clean, and fills it with water that has been chlorinated or ozonated, or even sterilized with hydrogen peroxide.

  2. All I know is where I live we have to remove the tops before recycling. I (and others I know) do reuse the smaller bottles until they are no longer usable. I'm glad to hear your hotel recycles also. I worked in hotels for a long time and am appalled at the amount of glass, and plastic they toss into the dumpsters everyday. I really think it should be mandatory for hotels and restaurants to recycle their bottles, etc.

    *Note:

Arizona Ice Tea's Large gallon plastic containers are not recycleable in most areas, as they are made from polypropolene, and this requires a special process to recycle. I won't buy this product until I can recycle the container.
