There have been many questions on this forum asking "what freedoms we personally have lost"?

There is and has been a big push to convince us that we are in danger, and the government is here to help.

Terrified people are easily controlled, so it is in the interest of the big government people to terrify us.

We will allow some or many of our freedoms to be suspended in the interests of safety and security.

There is a climate of fear that has been carefully nurtured by the government and news media, and we are buying it.

When are we going to decide not to be afraid?

Fear not Love is the single most powerful motivator, of people and Nations.

  1. Very much so , this Nation is well over populated , and is not getting any better.  People laugh when you tell them a coke was five cent when you were growing up , and you could take a quarter , go to the movies , and buy popcorn and a drink, and Gas was twenty five cents a gallon. And yet every one says they are jobs for every one , yes,  they are if you compete with the Mexicans.  They were building a Lowe's and the block masons was getting $7.00 an hour, versus the Union at $22.00 an hour.

  2. well, personally, im more afraid of our own governement than anything else. and as long as, "you know who is in power", everything will CONTINUE to go down the toilet! LOL

  3. I remember being a kid shooting hoops in the backyard and wonder which airplane was operated by the Soviets who would drop a bomb that would wipe out the entire country.

Our propagandist media just tells people to be more afraid these days.

  4. The ease of travel has altered the world and made us all more accessible to the whims of others. Air travel with it's relatively cheap fares have made it not only possible but in actuality quite common for large numbers of individuals and groups to move around the globe. Couple that ease of movement with the agendas of criminal and terrorist types, and you have a recipe for "more dangerous". So, my own answer (I'm retired) based on my generational experiences, would be yes. However, for those younger than myself, I can see where their answer could be different.

Let me offer an example. As I kid I remember our greatest fear was related to the nuclear capability threat posed by other nations. In retrospect we now realize those fears were probably overstated, and, of course, a nuclear attack never occurred. However, the current fear of terrorists is real in part because it is compounded by actual acts that have occurred. And, we appear powerless to prevent more from happening. So, ease of travel combined with terrorism has served to make the world a place more dangerous than when I was a kid.

  5. since were no longer having nuclear drills in our schools,i would say no.

  6. I don't think so.  I think the media shows us so much more, every second from around the world, that it magnifies everything.  In fact you might make the case that the world is better for it because it's outraged.  So much used to be swept under the carpet.

  7. Isn't it interesting that when we were young, the biggest fear people had was nuclear annihilation from those bloody Soviets. When the Cold War ended, we had to find some other sort of boogey man. Along came Osama bin Laden, who filled the role nicely representing as he does islamofascists. I suppose if we were to get the terrorists under control, sooner or later, something else would come along. I don't know if government actually does this to us, I think not, but they sure do take advantage of it.

  8. No terrorists were around. You did not have to listen to govt debate whether or not we should protect ourselves. It was never confused with racism or isolationism.  We have not lost any freedoms. Yes, the patriotic act has tightened security but none have been lost. That's just hype.  Maybe it is more difficult to travel but what the h**l, we have to make sacrifices. You can shove your head in the sand and pretend that terrorism is not a fact that has effected the US. You can shove your head where the liberals would like to see you put it, and pretend that our open borders do not allow anyone in. We ignored the warnings we received b4 Pearly Harbor bc of people who thought like you and we all know what happened.  And love does not motivate our enemy. Power and 72 virgins do!!

  9. In some respects the world is a more dangerous place at large, but domestically, not so much. I think what worries me is that we have come to expect some fairy godmother to magically protect us from all harm, thus exonerating us from having to exercise any effort on our own behalf. This is the root cause of much of the court direction of our laws as legislation from the bench. Too many people think someone else is going to save them, when our earlier generation knew that it was up to them to save themselves. I teach high school and the combination of helicopter parenting and lack of personal responsibility is very worrisome. Kids are prevented from learning from defeat, which means that having never failed, they aren't prepared to overcome failure. It is going to become a continuing and serious social issue.

  10. I don't know about you but when I grew up the news came on at 7:00P.M. then later that night. Now it is on 24/7 with no let up. Every gory detail is on T. V. for all to see...We didn't have that when I was young. As for kids fighting...once in a while a kid would get punched in the nose....now it's a bullet to the head.....We were taught to hide under our desks at school because the effects of bombs and the fallout weren't really known about back then. Now we know about asteroids heading toward the planets.....solar flares from the sun. ....who's got the bomb and who's making one. These are just a few reasons people are afraid.....What they have to remember is Fear is our biggest enemy. No one can function properly when they are afraid every minute of their lives. FDR said it best..." We have nothing to fear but fear itself." how true.

  11. No, but spelling clearly has. A typo in your question is terribly lax.
