An athlete like this must be super talented. Is this even allowed?

  1. Yes it is allowed, but no allowance is made for the time constraints of each event.  So if a marathoner wanted to pole vault or crew they may not be physically able to be in two places at one time.

Typically at that level of competition athletes focus on one or just a few events.  Smaller teams may have some that both run and compete in field events.

There are those who do both the Winter and Summer Olympics.

Track & Field runners may do Bob Sled in the winter.

  2. yes, they're called decathletes. you'll see them in the track and field portion of the olympics

  3. I dont see why if they were that multi talented and were good enough in more than one sport that they shouldnt be allowed to perform in more than one sport.
