I'm just curious to know if any of the new species discovered in recent years - especially land base species - have been linked to recent evolutionary changes. Or are they mostly the result of looking in places we haven't looked before?

  1. Yes.  Most new discoveries are the result of new exploration, but instances of speciation in progress is being observed.

The Hawthorne fly in the US Midwest will also produce larvae in apples (introduced from Europe).  A subpopulation will grow on apples.  The wasps that prey on them have also divided into subpopulations

Island lizard populations -- subject to being wiped out by storms -- offer a real world "laboratory" to observe the evolution of introduced species.

Fruit flies in the lab can speciate and become unable to breed with close laboratory cousins or the wild populations from which they were initially captured.
