Question:

Has there been earthquakes in the wintertime in Japan California? or other places? I've never heard of1.?

I just want to know if there has been earthquakes in the winter anywhere in the world. Why would they only hit in the summer? Is it something about the heat that makes better for an earthquake? It's warm in California in the winter, so why wouldn't there be one? (or has there been)?

  1. There are earthquakes every day, every hour, and I wouldn't be surprised if they happened every minute.  The atmospheric temperature has absolutely nothing to do with when or where they occur.

    This site lists the largest (2.5 and above), and keeps a list of updated quakes for about 2 weeks.

    You'll note there are several in other seasons and areas, including a 6.0 in Nevada in February.
