I was just wondering, was there ever a republican president with a vice president that was a democrat, or the other way around?

  1. At first, the person with the highest number of electoral votes became President and the person with the second highest amount became Vice President. That changed after the 12th Amendment was ratified. Now, the electors vote for one person for President, and one person for Vice President. They both run together, and, as previously noted, Lincoln and Johnson were from different parties, but that was how Lincoln operated. He appointed a lot of his "political enemies" to high level positions.

  2. Lincoln and Johnson.  Lincoln was a Republican and Johnson was a Democrat.

John Adams was a Federalist, and Thomas Jefferson was a Democratic-Republican.
