  1. Sure.   I've worked on a few diesel/electric vessels before.    The electricity powers magnets that turn the prop.   Not sure how it works- i'm a deckie.

    To prove the theory , experiments were done using magnetohydrodynamic propulsion.( saw videos)

    Strong moving magnetic fields were used to accelerate sea water & squirt it out the back to provide thrust.

    No moving parts , silent , very energy inefficient & slow to the point of being useless.

    The propulsion system used on  the Russian sub in the movie "Hunt for Red October" was based on this theory.

    No idea if anyone has made it practical.
