  1. no there hasnt

  2. Yes.

In Sydney 2000, two American Swimmers were both awarded gold for a tie in the 50m Freestyle.

However certain sports administration bodies do not allow ties.

  3. Twice in the Beijing Olympics in gymnastics men's final and women's final same night! 8/19/08.

  4. Valeri Liukin, a former Soviet gymnast/Nastia's dad was awarded a joint gold medal with fellow countryman Vladimir Artyomov after they tied the horizontal bar competition at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

And [[a_genius]] It's year 1997 where the dual-Gold was scraped so you're wrong.

  5. a_genius, it was Nastia Luikin that was cheated out of the gold medal on the uneven bars...not Shawn Johnson.

Yes, there have been SEVERAL "tie" golds that have been given out in multiple years, probably even this one.

  6. A_genius meant a broken tie between Chinese gymnast He Kexing and Nastia Liukin.

Rules got changed. Ties aren't given in gymnastics anymore. Nastia's father tied for USSR some years back when he was competing.

In most other sports, they do award ties, i.e. swimming, track, rowing.

  7. yes, in race events there have been ties for gold. I don't have a list of races that were tied, but just recently there was the controversial race with Michael Phelps and Milorad Cavic. Many believe that Cavic won, and many also think it was too close to say and it should have been a tie. .01 seconds is just too debatable. I would have tied it. All it would have taken was maybe 4 opinions that said it was a tie to have changed it. so yes, there can be ties for gold in race events, though it's not that common

  8. I'm sure years ago there were but not anymore which i find retarded. 2 people do their best and score the same... they both deserve gold. Silver you can tie with that, just not gold.

  9. It happen alot, I saw 2 silvers in swimming this year.

  10. Yes! I do not know who or what year. But in 1976, the International Olympic Committee STOPPED giving out more than one Gold Medal for competitors who tied in Gymnastics competitions.

Just this week, American Gymnast Shawn Johnson tied with a Chinese Gymnast for first place on the uneven bars. A very complicated tie-breaking system was used to award the Chinese Gymnast the Gold Medal.

So before 1976, I expect it happened many times, especially in gymnastics.

EDIT: O.K. the Olympic Committee made the change in 1987. I was right about everything else. :P

  11. YES THERE HAS!

Nastia's father (I forgot his name...) was tied for gold when he was a gymnast, and two gold medals were given.

    Unfortunately, I don't know what year :(

  12. In 1988 Valarie Liukin (Nastia's dad) tied with his team mate on bars - both got a gold medal.

  13. Yes, actually.  Here is one example of where two couples/people were awarded the gold medal.

At the 2002 Olympics the gold medal for figure skating was jointly awarded to the Canadians (Sale/Peltier) and the Russians.

Originally of the 9 judges, 5 voted higher for the Russians, 4 voted the Canadians higher.  Huge drama involving judge tampering (a Russia judging ice dancing had promised to vote for the French in exchange for a Russian gold).  After the French judge's mark was throw out, the two countries were tied at 4 votes each and tied the gold.
