  1. There are a lot of these kinds of studies in the child development field that suggest children don't notice certain differences until a certain age, then they notice them and maybe ask questions but don't necessarily judge, then a little later they make judgments based on differences.

    In adults I'm not sure but the study would be more difficult to do scientifically because era and generational history would be an uncontrollable factor. (i.e. someone who lived through WWII would think differently than someone who hadn't.)


  2. You would have to define "tolerance of people's differences". The General Social Survey has taken data concerning individual's views on homosexual s*x relations, thermometers on feelings toward various racial and religious groups, and loads of other tolerance related issues.  

    From data I've run on SPSS, typically, younger people are warmer and more accepting of people's differences than the older generations.
