Has this ever happened in baseball?

Question

A batter gets hit with a pitch but the umpire doesn't think it him him. Say for example the ball hits him on a finger and breaks it. And the batter has to come out of the game, and 1st base isn't awarded. Has this ever happened?

Sure.  If the umpire determines that the batter made no effort to avoid being hit, he can not only not award him the base, but if the pitch was in the strike zone, called it a strike.
