Has this ever happened to anybody in Spider Solitare?

I was playing SS on Windows XP, and I got to the point where there was only one card in all slots. Except here's the catch, one card slot was empty. There were 10 card slots, and only 9 had a card in them. So I couldn't deal any more cards because it doesn't let you do that if one card slot is empty. That way, I automatically lost the game and I don't even know how. Has this ever happened to anybody else?

That's part of the rules of the game.  You need to plan so that doesn't happen.  Sometimes that means delaying a pick-up.

that has happened to me before but the best way to avoid it is to not crowd cards that don't go together in some columns

Yes, if you get to a stage where you can't fill out all the slots - and therefore can't deal a new deck of cards, you've lost that game :(

That's part of the rules of the game... you need to catch it before that happens so you can deal your cards out before you get into that situation.
