I started a team in Luebeck in N.Germany and there are several clubs in the Hamburg and Hannover areas. As with cricket, it is difficult for a new sport to take hold, especially when the rules are complicated.

when i worked in cologne our local Irish bar took on a German team and slaughtered them about a million -nil.  they fall over every 5 minutes in football what do you think they will make of rugby. I do know they have cricket clubs but don't know if it will catch on and a mate of mine tried to start a hurling league in wittenburg, don't know how that's doing either. Hope they do take up rugby though, it will be great to kick their buts at something.

but they were knocked out over a two legged play-off against Portugal !!!! So it gives some sign of how good they are ?!?!?!

There are a few rugby teams in Germany , but football is far more popular . You're right , it would mesh well : big guys hitting each other hard ... it just never took off , don't know why .
