Question:

Has weightlifting since 14 stopped my growth?

I've been weightlifting since I was late 14, early 15 years old and now I'm 16 1/2. I've been doing squats, benches, and dead lifts with the proper form and my dad is 6' 3" and my mom is 5' 7" and my uncle is 6' 4". My dad's side of the family is tall while my mom's side is average. I really, really need to know if it has affected my growth? If I stop lifting, will I continue to grow? Please answer with proof and a logical reason and not just say stuff like i knew someone who knew someone or whatever. Please answer ASAP.

  1. i would have to say yeah man

i wish i knew not to do some exercises but you still have time

i would say try lay of the squatting and deadlift for a few eyars and you should be in good shape

you still have a lot of potential cause you are still young

  2. nope because my ex-bodybuilder dad has had me working out since 5th-6th grade pretty heavily. im 16 now, and im about 6'3.5". im taller than my dad and all of my friends so i doubt it has any effect at all. according to my dad there are studies that show it doesnt affect height. i dont really reccomend straight bar deadlifts tho (hurt your back). working out since i was like 12 has made me a lot stronger and a lot better at sports so keep it up

  3. No, it has not. People still grow, no matter the muscles you have gained. I have a friend who weightlifted at 14 aswell, and he still grew. All that happens is his muscles were very sore, because the bones grew when his muscles were already toned to where they are.

Odds are you are not done growing, but be prepared for some stretching and aching once you do.

  4. no ,

  5. I've never heard of weight lifting stunting someone's growth.  Keep in mind your only 16, most guys keep growing till they're like 23.  Just make sure you eat right and get plenty of nutrients.

  6. Add me to the myth list. & here's a link to BB.com. I trust tehm.
