Has your AC broke in the summer before?

Mine just broke yesterday. It's 100 degrees now. Has yours broken down before? If so, how did you deal with it?

The first problem with airconditioners is cracking of the alloy pipe which carries the freon or other cooling gases. That is why you should choose a company with high quality and not just a brand which is popular. I am in India and have chosen Electrolux and I have not regretted it. Otherwise, the AC breaks down from the Carnot engine which compresses the gas and throws out the heat. This is supposed to happen much later. If it happens right at the start then the AC is useless and a very bad product.

I don't have central in this house, but if I did, I'd always keep a small portable A/C on hand to keep at least one room cool.

I have two portable A/Cs since my apt. does not allow window A/C units.

oh yes! i know exactly how you feel. it broke down last summer and my dad was away so we had to wait until he got home so he could fix it.

we slept downstairs because it was hotter upstairs.

just drink a lot of water and get a fan.

I didn't have it break down (yet) but had to wait for a new one to be installed.  I took cold showers, drank lots of cold water, etc.  And kept some ice water and paper towels handy, and would rub the cold water on my arms and neck.  And used a fan, even though it only blew the hot air around.

Also, I went into the pool a lot.
