Has your TV ever just turned on by itself? Any logical explainations for this??

Mine has, as well as the DVD player turning on by itself

a couple of times while doing the dishes, I'd think to myself, "okay well, it's time to play a movie"

about 5 feet away from the entertainment center one or the other has turned on by itself.

it happened 3-4 times in less than a yr.

how can this be explained exactly?

[I didn't TOUCH IT!!]

hmmm ....

  1. Someone else has a remote that operates on the same frequency, or else you have electrical issues either in the TV or (since it's more than just the TV) in your wiring.

  2. Mice love channel surfing after they finish their cheese. Don't leave remote on the floor.

  3. hi harold...could be anything causing it.....if and only IF it is spirit activity, which they do use electricity, have you noticed when the tv came on, was there anything worthwhile to you on tv, like a message passed onto you....if it happens again take notice of what is on tv at the time....my stero has come on in the middle of the night, giving me the fright of my life, but i did notice once, a special song was playing...the other times i was to sleepy to take any notice, i just woke up and quickly turned it back off..(my volume is always up loud).....it could be anything causing it....just take more notice next time it happens, take note of what is playing when it comes on...sometimes you,d be surprised,

  4. Ever see the movie grumpy old men? It is entirely possible that there is another remote somewhere in your neighborhood that is at the same frequency as yours.

  5. That'd be cool if you could do it on command.

Do you live near power lines or a mischievous child with a remote control?

  6. I used to live in a mobile home. All the electrical stuff went through a trip switch box (under the sink in the kitchen) I would be watching TV sometimes and the trip switch would switch it's self off, plunging me into darkness. THAT WAS CREEPY, and I had the system checked to make sure every thing was OK, and it was............No explanation for it other than the fact that the old guy who had lived there before me didn't have a TV as he didn't like the noise!!! (found this out talking to a neighbour, shortly before I moved out!!!))

  7. The timer is going off & on?????? This happened to me at a lighthouse several times...but I'm sure it was a timer someone had set

EDIT I'm glad to see that the skeptics are giving some possible answers...instead of just saying "no evidence"..

EDIT RENEE...we'd like to hear your stories...don't worry about the skeptics..they really like to hear them too (just won't admit it). Maybe you'll open the way for others to tell more.

  8. Yes, and no.

  9. It is possible that your TV has a loose wire that just slipped over...

  10. my t.v. turns its self off  usually at the last part of the movie. or when I know that I'm supposed to be doing something else. Its my family's way of reminding me ,to getter done. Now my computer is a different story.....Its always turning its self on,after I shut it off.As long as its playfulness is harmless,be thankfully you have a fun guest or someone in visitation.Unless you are threatened by it......then do some research on the land, and the homes occupants.you can also ask your family members if anyone has crossed over ,that loved t.v or your choices in movies......Blessed be!

  11. I had a TV that did that and when I rearranged my living room it stopped.  I think it had something with light coming in the window and passing cars triggering the remote sensor on the TV.  I lived in an apartment then and maybe someone had the same make TV or something.

  12. My TV has turned off before and it wasn't the circuit breaker or an internal timer.

    I believe in spirits too.

  13. Awesome. I truly hope this is not bull. If it isn't it is the coolest question ever. Could be a power surge. Or a "friend" that is also a practical joker put some kind of a chip in it that makes it do that just to see the look on your face and he comes over to see you. Try to remember where you bought the equipment and who has had access to it besides you. Is someone trying to get you committed to a loony bin? If so, in what way would they benefit from that?

  14. My friend had a electric light that was like that, she called the electrian in 2-3 times they said there was nothing wrong with the light. My friend beleived it was her mother that passed over.

  15. Just pull off the plug and it wont be turned on without power supply..

  16. About five years ago my unplugged turned-off alarm clock turned on by itself and went psycho two times, one day after the other. It flashed and glowed exactly at 11:11 both times it went nuts (or it might have been 12:12). I still have it and it hasn't happened since.

Incase you are wondering, it was battery operated. Regardless, doesn't make any sense how it did what it did because it wasn't programmed to go psycho by rattling, glowing, and changing pitches.

  17. HIGHLY doubtful it is another remote on the same frequency because TV remotes don't use RF.  They are Infrared light controlled.  Each button press sends a series of flashing IR light from the remote to the TV.  I have seen instances where HAM radios transmitting at a moderate power can induce signals into the components of a TV or stereo and cause turning off and on.  I had a stereo that turned on or off every time I keyed up my 6 meter radio.

There are too many other possibilities to eliminate before jumping right into spirit activity.

EDIT: I actually came home today to a tv that was on, sound turned down.  There is no way we could have left this morning with the picture on.  It is a wide screen TV and takes up a good portion of one wall. :)

  18. Everything depends on electricity, if once intensity of income electricity increase it can, ah also it depends on quality of product

  19. u have some miraculous ideas,

    keep it up

  20. I'm sorry people act like children on here.  I believe in spirits and there could be one there.  They do things like that and you know that this one isn't gonna hurt you.  Spirits actually work through electronics easier, then just moving something around your house.  You could try to contact the spirit, but if you do, do it with someone who is really experienced.  You could find out what the spirit wants.  I have used a Oujii board once with my friend and it was actually very successful.

But, you never know it could also just be the tv.

  21. This has happened to me before!!!  It scared me too.  But I realized that there was something off in the wiring.  I was told there was a "short" in the wire.  For whatever reason it could not maintain a prolonged current flowing through it.  It could also have to do with the number of appliances that you have plugged in to a certain circuit in your house.  You could have more than one circuit in a room, and if there are multiple things drawing on one circuit it can become overloaded and momentarily "chip" out.  Have you noticed anything else turn off?  I hope this helps...

  22. I used to do in home TV repair and occasionally the sensor in the TV would respond to the strobe of a florescent light

  23. It is probably loved ones that have passed on. Just acknowledge your deaceased loved ones by saying out loud "hello, I know you are here now! You got my attention".

What is it going to hurt?

  24. Ghost or maybe you are telekinetic.  Other than that, maybe you have a coincidental glitch in the electronics.

  25. Hi , I'm new to this group and this first thing, that I am going to say is going to make the most of you believe, that I am just out to pull a few leg's, but I'm not. I love this statement, the first ten years of my marrage, my husband bought more T.V., DvD player's and light bulb's than most buy in a life time, thinking we were having one type of problem or another. After a few year's, and living in several different homes that had that same said "Problem" I got the gut's up to tell him that I came from a long line of women, that happen to be born with different types of thing's that to this day he doesn't understand, But... I can say he leaves the T.V.'s alone and just stock's the house up with light bulb's and batterys. I wish I could explain why thing like that happen, but even I grew up to just get use to all the little thing's that have fun where ever I live, I have an idea, but if I go into all of that now, You may all want someone to put me in a nut house...LOL...Have a great day and Rock On!!!

  26. yess.... you need an exorcist.... like righ NOW!

  27. Maybe you accidently pressed the power on the controller, but if it has happened that many times I highly doubt it.

Have you ever seen the movie poltergist?

I think it's time for you to call the mediums.

  28. yes, and I thought it was really weird..no explanation....maybe you have powers, keep trying and see if you do..

  29. WEll yes it happens. One reason could be becasuse your electricity could be experienceing some problems or just some power lines are starting to seperate. It could also be ghosts but there is no way on provoing it. THe best answer i can give you is just that it can be a mixture of electricity problems and superstitions but over all there is no absolute answer to this

  30. Ah yes,

I had a t.v. that used to do that sometimes. There were even a couple of times when it started turning itself on and off, over and over again.

It's nothing to worry about at all! I was not afraid because I was always sure that there must be a glitch in the t.v. circuits - probably the ones that have to do with activating it. Eventually, it gave out entirely and I bought a new one - no problems since then :)

  31. Every now and then my friend Tommy comes to visit me from the other side... one of the ways that I know that he is around is that the televisions will start going on and off in the middle of the night. It will go on for a week or so and then abruptly stop. I lived in New York and moved to Florida and it is still the same sign.
