My daughter did today..I can only put it on her twice daily..Obviously she has more than 2 diaper changes in a day-so can I use diaper rash ointment when I'm not using the Nystatin? I forgot to ask her pedi today and I don't want anything worse happening to her lil tushy if she's not protected..

  1. wouldnt use anything with it. just put it on in the morning and at night. I used it for my daughter when she was about 6 months and it cleared up in 2 days. that stuff rocks!

  2. How old is your daughter?  I have had many foster babies use Nystatin, and i was always instructed to use it 4 times a day.  Even so, you can still use a barrier cream to prevent more irritation in between the Nystatin doses. Bordeaux's Butt Paste http://www.buttpaste.com/BLButtPaste.php  is the best in my opinion!

Just try to use the Nystatin when she will be in one diaper the longest, such s night time and nap time.

Best of luck to you!  Yeast rashes are no fun!

  3. Yes you can use cream, but in general they make yeast worse because they keep the skin moist.

Nystatin is pretty ineffective because yeast regrows in 90 minutes and it can only be used twice a day.

There are non-prescription treatments that are more effective:

  4. I would still contintue using something, maybe even just vasoline as a moisture barrier, diaper rash ointment would probably be fine though!

  5. It does work, but you should use the ointment. Also, you may notice that Nystatin will burn her skin and cause blisters if used alot and you should use the ointment as a barrier before applying the Nystatin. We went through this with my younger daughter and this is what our ped told us- we couldn't figure out why it was only looking worse and worse- we had no idea Nystatin can burn.

  6. Put it on after she takes her morning poopy and right before bedtime. My daughter was on that and i found that it did not work. I hope it works for your though!!

EDIT: DON"T USE VASALINE!!! I read that and wanted to tell you NO!!! A yeast infection is a type of fungus, fungus breeds in warm, dark DAMP areas. The second you put on vasaline it will get worse. I asked my DR the same thing caused I noticed the burning also and that is what he told me. And we used it for 5 weeks before we switched medicine, it really didn't work for us.
