It's typically affects babies from 2 weeks to 12 months of age and espically under 10 onths of age.

My 11 month old has this an she is so grizzly ect. she is normally a really happy baby and when she has had a cold, you can hardly tell she is sick. This is what the doc said she has and that there are no antibiotics for it but it is so hard to only be able to give her panadol. it dosent seem right that there is nothing more i can do for her than comfort her. He also said it can last for up to 10 days!!

Do any of you have any advice or have expirenced this before? Doctors are idiots sometimes and i would really feel better if someone can tell me that this is fine that has had ACTUAL expirence with this before.

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

  1. My daughter had it around 12 months.  She used a nebulizer, and it cleared up pretty quickly!

  2. My cousins 18 month old daughter had this. They put a humidifier in her room and gave her tylenol every 6 hours to help with her fever. Just make sure your baby is getting plenty of fluids and sleep (even though baby's already get alot of sleep).  Her baby was feeling okay within a few days and was back to normal within a week.

  3. I had one son who had it at 18-months old, another son had it at three-months old. It freaked me out both times, but they got well pretty quickly.

In both cases, the doctor gave us a nebulizer to do breathing treatments at home. For the first couple nights, he said we even needed to wake them up periodically when they were sleeping in order to do a treatment. I have always wondered if that was really necessary, but I didn't want to take a chance. After a few days, the wheezing pretty much went away, but the cough lingered for over a week. I guess that is fairly typical.

In addition to that, we just gave them Tylenol when we felt that they needed it. And gave them a lot of fluids. With our three-month old, our doctor showed us how to watch his chest retractions so that we could tell if his breathing was getting really bad. Thankfully, it only got better.

It is definitely up there on my list of "scary sickness that my children have experienced," but it was pretty straightforward. I hope your baby is feeling better soon. Just keep an eye on her, and if you get nervous, call your doctor.

  4. my son has bronchitis and the dr just gave him a prescripton for zithromax.  Talk to him again.
