  1. the beginning of the year I had one of my cats (3 years old) in for a full dental cleaning.  the night before I had to take his food away at midnight and then bring him into the vets at 8am and they did the procedure and by 5pm I could pick him up and was told to not give him a full portion of food that night because of the anesthesia.  but no antibiotics or pain meds were needed prior or post procedure.  I'm going to have my other cat's teeth done next year.

  2. I have had several cats go in for dental cleanings. Some of them have had extractions. When they have extractions they get stitches in their gums, and along with that comes the antibiotics.

My most recent dental experience was a multiple extraction in my Tuxedo lady, Minnie Mieux. She came home with a bottle of pain reliever that I administered to her twice or three times a day for a few days and antibiotic pills that had the same schedule.

Along with the pills the doctor gave me a "pill popper" that holds the pill until you have it in position in the cat's mouth, then you release a little spring and it shoots it down their neck. Works real well and is safe.

    Good luck to your kitty!
