Has your cat ever had a run in with a bat?

A bat made its way into my home last night and my cat kept chasing it to the point that it made it very difficult for me to catch it.

The cat never caught it but it sure tried hard. Have you ever seen anything similar?

  1. Dont Have A Cat =] x

  2. Yes, we had a male cat about 10 years ago who actually caught the bat before we knew it was in the house, unfortunately my cat ATE most of the bat therefore we were unable to test it for rabbies and shortly there after my cat showed symptoms of rabbies and we found a  VERY small bite on the cats neck and we had to put him down.

If your cat DID NOT come into contact with the bat you should be ok, but I would try to kill the bat and have it tested just incase.

  3. the cat must be very determind to catch it

  4. MY EXPERIENCE IS MY KIDS called me from home saying their was bat in the house and totally freaking out so I came home because they said the cat was playing with it. So We locked the cats in the room and killed the bat put it in a jar gave it to animal place to see if it had rabies.. although my cats have rabies shots

  5. *Sighs* yes I have been through it, too. VERY large tiger cat, very small bat.....the bat screeching and screaming... the cat howling and trashing everything in sight to catch it.....very distressing at 3 a.m. come to find out the cat was the one who brought it in....nights were much quieter once i remembered to lock the cat flap before I went to bed.

  6. Yes a few times, my indoor cat sneaks out at night and crawled under the screen door screen on the deck and jumps up on the roof, and catches bats and brings them  in XDD a few have been alive, and some of them dead lol.

  7. Yes, a bat got in out house last summer and all four of my cats went nuts trying to get it.  Next time do what I did - put the cat(s) in another room until you catch it.

The bat could have hurt the cat (depending on the breed of bat) - and your vet bill would have been the least of your problems.  Next time, turn on all the lights and open a window or door after securing your animals - bats can feel an air current and will head toward the outside without needing to "catch" it and possibly injure yourself.

  8. I had a female Calico that used to "tree" bats on the walls, in the drapes, on top of the window moldings, etc.  She would be making so much noise, that we would get up, catch the bat(s) with an oven mitt, and set them free outdoors. (it's illegal to kill them here).  It's was just so much fun for her!  Like having a terrific toy to stalk!
