Question:

Has your child had to wear nappies whilst in hospital?

I remember being in hospital whin I was 7 recovering from appendicitus (it had actually burst) when I had a case of diarrhoea.

I still had a drip in my arm so every time I needed to go a nurse had to come and disconnect the drip so I could use the loo, as you can imagine this took some time and with diarrhoea the need to use the loo is quite urgent so I kept messing the bed.

My parents and the nurses agreed that it would be best to have me in nappies so that in the frequent event of an accident it would be caught in the nappy and I could just be cleaned up and have a fresh nappy put on.

Looking back I wonder why I didn't mind too much about wearing nappies but I suppose I was just feeling grateful that I was still alive after my appendicitus operation and being on a ward where people are there because they are sick means that the fact I was in nappies didn't seem that odd.

Have you heard of someone who has been through something similar?

Or indeed gone through it yourself.

  1. My 2yo had a couple of operations this year, and although fully toilet trained was put into nappies.

He was really groggy and sickly after his operations, so they were put on to stop him messing every where. I thought it was weird at the time, but understand why it was done.

  2. Nope, never gone through it myself, but I can understand why the nurses would've wanted you in nappies. My son had to be in hospital for almost 2 weeks (he has cystic fibrosis and had to have IV). At the time he was still in nappies, but I dread to think of what would happen now he's toilet trained!

The unfortunate problem was the diarrhoea - you poor thing!
