The Packers are willing to spend $20 million to keep Brett away.

The Packers have Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson.

The Packers have a wide receiver corp of Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Ruvell Martin, James Jones and Jordy Nelson.

The Packers are playing in the NFC North. Do they have anything to fear from Chicago, Detroit and Minnesota?

  1. The Packers think Aaron Rodgers is worth $20 million to keep Brett Favre retired.

    That should give us pause.

If the Packers simply chose Rodgers over Favre, I could accept the youth movement and question whether Brett had enough in his tank for one more good season. But the Packers know Brett has the ability to win and they are spending $20 million to let Rodgers loose.

  2. My draft ranking of him most certainly has changed - I'm staying the heck away from him!

I wouldn't touch Favre or Rodgers with anything less than a very late pick at this point. If it were clear who the starter was going to be, and what the heck was going to happen with Favre, I'd have no qualms about taking either of them, but for now, I have to take the "wait and see" approach. What else can you really do?

Now, if Favre gets pawned off to some other team, I may reach on Rodgers a little more than I would have under normal circumstances. I was pretty high on him this year to start with - I thought he'd be a great value for where he was going. I think he would outperform someone like... say.... Eli Manning. His team is simply too good to make him be an awful fantasy QB.

As far as having anything to fear - in a word, yes. I have Minnie, not the Packers, winning that division, and I think that if Chicago can figure out their offense, they can still be a wildcard threat. Detroit.... well, they're Detroit. They don't impress and/or scare me, and they never have. The QB situation in Green Bay has the potential to completely ruin their season if they don't get it all sorted out. Regardless of who starts, I think the Vikings take the division, and I think the Bears will be a surprise - hovering around .500. The Pack will get second, but I don't see them being dominant because of the distractions. They'll grab a wildcard spot.
