  1. yes it probably happens more with cheap hoses or what they call "light duty". Apparently there are "medium duty, heavy duty, and professional duty" which are constructed with more plys and cost more. I seem to recall the medium being 4 ply, heavy is 5 ply, and professional is 6-ply construction. So the more plys it has, the less likely the hose will develop leaks. So it goes back to what you pay for...

  2. I'm like 'July' only a little more proactive. I lay my cheap old hose on the garden and turn it on. Where ever a leak makes a wet spot, that's where I put my thirsty plants. I've also been known to poke a hole if a plant isn't getting enough water.  RScott

  3. Yes but that's because I bought a really cheap water hose at the Dollar General.

  4. Yes, when they're left exposed to freezing temperatures in the wintertime.  This can be outdoors or even in a shed.  The material the hose is made of will stiffen and crack.

Cheap hoses are, of course, more likely to do this.  It's a bit startling to walk by your hose and feel that little squirt of water but not know where it's coming from.  I try to position the hose where the pinhole leak will water something.
