I was surprised to find that most of the walmart stores in our area have eliminated the self-check lanes....I really liked self-check and can't figure out why they have taken them out.

  1. no...

  2. No they have not. However, I hope they do.

  3. i work at walmart and it because of theft ppl robber us blind with the self check outs

  4. a Lot of places have eliminated self-check,

like albertsons, wal mart, stater bros, ralphs, its becoming a corrupt nation with the recession in our economy an stufff

  5. no

  6. nope i actually used it to buy a cake today :]

i'm not sure why they would get rid of them, unless there was a lot of stealing going on. i know that at the self-checkouts at weis (which is next to our high school), kids have a lot of ways to get away with getting things on the receipt and then not paying for them, like saying they're buying one doughnut and walking out with a dozen.

  7. I assume they make people more likely to steal. Since there's no cashier, going through a self-checkout definitely makes you feel like if you "forgot" to ring something through, no one would notice. And if they do, you can just pretend it was an accident and act like you were just too dumb to use the machine properly...

In my city the Wal-Mart that has these still has them, but it's in a pretty wealthy area and is only accessible by car (ie if you are too poor to own a car, you can't get there!), so it probably has a pretty low incidence of theft compared to other stores.

  8. because it is so much easier for people to steal stuff this way.  also, everytime i used the self check lanes it wouldn't scan something right or i would have to get someone to help me with something.  i think they are more trouble then they are worth.  and come to think of it.....i have noticed that the self check lanes have not been open at my walmart lately.  interesting.

  9. There still there. But I live in Washington. So I don't know what to tell you.!
