Of course now what about Chelios and Drake? Andres Lilja I think should go or get less ice time for Jonathan Ericsson to step up this season and Justin Abdelkader, and who is that finland kid that they signed, anyone remember? Vinnie something or villie lol, help.

  1. he is very very overrated....if u go look at the shot on net that he had while playing in Buffalo and Detroit, they averaged maybe 20 -25, he had good defence in front of him....he got his break in Buffalo when Fuhr got hurt or who knows where this guy would be now

he is also a very selfish person, i had ten year olds in Buffalo for tournament and he was asked for autographs, he didnt respond, just kept walking

he got all his money and now is going home...seeeee yaaaa

Major Tom, on top???? he didnt win the cup for the Red Wings, if fact he was pulled, so they could win...know the man before show him respect!!

  2. Anyone thinking Dominic was in hockey for the love of the game is sadly mistaken.

This is the lame duck king of hockey.

    He did it with Chicago

    He did it with Buffalo

He did it with Detroit (1st time around)

He did it with Ottawa (ask ANY Senators fan)

Yes, he did it again with Detroit.

I did support him when he was in Buffalo ...

That was until he whined sour grapes over Brett Hull in the goal crease.

That was so borderline compared to what goes on today.

Domenic does what Domenic wants to do ...

How does he spell his name, btw?

    Domenic Ha$ek.

  3. Wings are ridculously old and still kicks *** so ya

Cheilos better retire soon or he will break his hip on the ice

    Hasek is gettin pretty old

Wings should get rid of there old-timers and make room for rookies

  4. He was a great goaltender in the NHL and you can't say that he retired because he wasn't good anymore. He has been great throughout his entire career. Thanks for the memories Hasek!

  5. You can not say about time to a hockey player who is only 43 when you have Gordie Howe whos last NHL game was when he was 52 years old and six days...

Compare that to Hasek... his age is nothing...

And it is not like Hasek sucks....

He is amazing and has given the Red Wings, Senators, Sabres, and the Blackhawks the best he could ever play...

SO do not say about time to a great goalie like Hasek!!!

  6. Chelios and Drake should fight to the death and the winner should retire.

  7. Chelios should be next and I think Drake will retire also.

  8. Chelios has no desire to retire and the Wings will be happy to keep him around as a spare part.

Lilja actually got more ice time in the Finals than I thought he would (so did Lebda).

Drake will probably go out a winner.  I'm sure there is plenty of depth in the AHL to take his playing time.

  9. Hasek had already retired, but this time I think it should be for good. He is still an awesome goalie and he will be missed.

As for Chelios and Drake, they are still doing great as well. Drake and Chelios got some pretty mean checks in, so as long as they pull their weight, which I can see them doing, why not.

  10. I will miss Hasek but I'm glad Ozzy is in the Wing's goal right now. I personally don't want to see Chelios or Drake retire but I suppose if neither of them care to or can play any more they can do what they like. I always have liked both of them....

  11. I'm glad to see him retire on top, go out in style! He was one of the greatest goalies in our time. Show a little respect.

The Wings have some decisions to make. They have some great new talent comin' down the pipe. Where do they make room? Chelios wants to stay on as a mentor. Drake wanted to retire, but he might have second thoughts after winning a Cup, he's a great utility player.

I think Lilja might be gone. I hope they hang on to Stuart.

    John M & Tedsky2004: He had

    389 wins

    81 shutouts

    6 Vezina Trophy's

    3 Jennings Trophy's

    2 Hart Trophy's (thanks scifientist)

    2 Pearson Awards

    6 times First All-Star Team

and you call that overrated? I'm sorry you had one bad experience w/ some youngsters, sounds like sour grapes, but that's no reason to trash someone.

He was certainly an integral part of the regular season, which last time I checked you need to get through before you can even compete for the Cup.

gentljohn - all that is understandable, I'm sure he is not the only selfish player ever, but this is not a popularity contest. The guy was a great goalie from a Hockey sense, you don't get to where he has gotten and not be great. I hate Patrick Roy and think he was an arrogant @sshole, but he was still a great goalie.

  12. Hasek's also the only goaltender ever to be awarded the Hart Trophy (MVP) twice.

  13. major Tom, all great numbers, but as was mentioned, he had some good defence in front of him, on both Buffalo and Detroit...why didnt he stick with Chicago??

i heard some interesting comments on Buffalo radio this morning, from a former teammate of his as to how he was in the room...me me me, i, i, i, never giving cudo's to his teammates and never wanting to be part of "team" events..hockey doesnt need kids of players

  14. As a blackhawk fan, seems the wings management has done a pretty good job as to who to keep and who to let go or encourage to retire, think I would let them keep on making the decisions, probably do not need any help.

  15. NO, he stills has a good 2 years left in em

besides he should try to outplay Gump Worsley for oldest Goalie still playing

  16. hasek was not overrated,or not as good as he thought he was,but he was a very good goaltender..retire , best did he could do right now

  17. I'm going to miss Hasek because he was an amazing goalie and had a great career, but it's time for him to retire and let Ozzie take over.

Chelios already said that he has no desire to retire at this point and has every intention of coming back next season. He said that he's willing to play less for a winning team.

Drake is expected to retire too.  I'm sure his announcement will be coming soon.  He's been chasing the cup for 15 years and finally got it, so there's not much else for him to do at this point.

  18. hasek is not overrated he was passably the best goalie Ive ever seen play, no offensive to Roy but Roy was surrounded by talent and hasek in his Buffalo days was not he carried that team

  19. John M... shut up, go to school, and learn some history.

i'm sure you're happy watching mediocre goal-tending... because that's all the league has to offer.

everyone plays the same... there are no new styles coming out anymore!

the last great stylist was dominik hasek... he created his 'scramble' style of play, relying on not only technique and skill, but on emotion and intuition.

he's the best goalie we will ever see in our lifetime.

without dom, we would not be watching the luongos and the fleurys that you see today.

    and another thing john...

you say he's selfish? ...what about the millions of  dollars he gave to YOUR stupid city so poor kids can play hockey?!

    what about that?! loser.

    ...

and then you say that fuhr was the reason he got a shot... excuse me? you no nothing. your ignorance is insulting... look  at his junior records... look at his pre-nhl records.

maybe YOU should know a man before you go slandering his name on public boards... you know nothing about dominik hasek... go watch boring brodeur in another butterfly doing what every other goalie in the league is doing.

you  give hockey fans a bad name.

  20. Hasek played great for the Wings over the past years and will surely be missed. I am glad that Osgood is back in the system though.  Really you have to feel for Hasek, he says he doesnt have the motivation and who can blame him. The Red Wings bring back into the orginization one of the most beloved players in recent memory, everyone wants to see Ozzie between the pipes so Dom has to feel like he is out in the cold a bit.

I wouldnt be suprised if Drake leaves this year, freeing up a permenant roster spot for Helm who has clearly earned one.  Drake has had a long grueling career.  Its prolly his time to go now that he has earned the cup. Cheli said he is staying aboard for another year, but I wouldn't be suprised to see a reversal of that idea pretty soon.  I wouldn't be suprised to see Lilja get released or traded away and Ericsson land in the 5/6 defense role next season.
