Hashan Tillakaratne asks for protection – Cricket news
Things seem to have taken a serious turn in the ongoing Sri Lankan match fixing saga as former Sri Lanka captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hashan-Prasantha-Tillakaratne-c62021 has revealed that he will only share information with the ICC after he is granted police protection. He said this after his second meeting with the Criminal Investigation Department this week on Friday, May 6, 2011.
Tillakaratne explained that he would go on to name the parties involved if given protection from the concerned authorities. The former Sri Lankan skipper, who has represented his country in 200 One Day Internationals, testified to the saga and said, “As an eyewitness to match-fixing, I will reveal the names of those involved if my security is guaranteed.”
According to reports, Tillakaratne’s family has been on the receiving end of several death threats warning the former captain not to take the names of those involved. Security is the main concern for the politician as he looks to blow the lid on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s involvement in match fixing, which according to him has been taking place since 1992.
Hashan responded to claims by the media that his recent movement to highlight the claims has been for his own political reasons by denying he had any such motive. He went on to explain that he would share all the information with the International Cricket Council in the hopes of protecting cricket from the frowned upon and highly criticised activity.
The left-handed batsman added, “I made the statements neither to get political mileage nor to put anyone in an awkward position. I made the comments in good faith and I will share the information with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625. The exercise was meant to protect the game and the players we all love so much.”
Tillakaratne’s comments have caused a rippling effect with everyone who has a stake in the game and follows the recent saga that took place in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zulqarnain-Haider-c98685. Players seem divided over their view of the news with Kumar Sangakkara stating that the claims were unsubstantiated and whether or not the information was backed by any solid evidence.
