Hashan Tillakaratne faces death threats after decision to expose corruption in Cricket
The former Sri Lankan skipper, Hashan Tillakaratne is receiving threatening calls after stirring a hot debate over match-fixing.
Hashan, who is a political figure now, earlier came up with severe allegations against his national side and vowed to expose the corrupt.
He is now being condemned at every forum and circle in Sri Lanka. The players, the politicians and the cricket management of the country consider Hashan’s stand as a black spot on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s fair image.
During his recent talks with the media, Hashan has confirmed that he is getting death threats from some unknown sources. He says, “I have been getting a lot nuisance calls and death threats.”
However, the daring legend is not ready to succumb to the opposition and vows to proceed with his stance. He has revealed that he will appear before the International Cricket Council (ICC) with solid evidence.
Despite his recent claims, Hashan has not unveiled the names of the offenders as he thinks that taking his case to the ICC is the appropriate way.
During the Western Provincial Council’s meeting a few days back, Hashan claimed that the Sri Lankan team had been involved in match-fixing and spot-fixing practices since 1992.
Hashan is not the first one to speak and be snubbed. Bob Woolmer, the former coach of Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, was the pioneer of this movement. He exposed fixing practices during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and died in mysterious circumstances a few days later. Zulqarnain Haider, the former Pakistani wicketkeeper, opened his lips a year ago but he had to pay for it with his career.
Some analysts argue that corruption is so strongly embedded in cricket that it cannot be rooted out by a single person.
Since the gambling and betting industry is owned and operated by corporate tycoons, it is difficult for a figure like Hashan to oppose, expose and fight against the menace.
