Hashan Tillakaratne summoned again by Sri Lankan CID – Cricket Update
Former Sri Lankan skipper, Hashan Tillakaratne, has been called upon by the Sri Lanka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a second time, on Friday, May 6.
Sri Lankan CID wants Tillakaratne to make his statement on match-fixing for the second time, in which he said that the menace has been going on in the sport for more than 20 years now.
According to the former skipper, Sri Lankan CID has summoned him to appear at their office to record the statement, in which he will reveal the names of those who were involved in match-fixing during the 1990’s.
Initially, Tillakaratne was scared to take any action against the culprits, as he was tortured by life threatening calls and e-mails. However, he has now decided to confront the media and Sri Lankan Cricket Board, to call out names of involved players.
According to media reports, the former Sri Lankan captain recently stated that match-fixing is very common in Sri Lankan cricket, since 1992.
After Tillakaratne’s statement, Sports Minister of Sri Lanka, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, along with the Sri Lankan cricket board has planned to setup an inquiry over the allegations made by the former captain. Aluthgamage has also called on the Inspector General of Police, Mahinda Balasuriya, to join the board for the investigation.
