Hashan Tillakaratne waiting for right time to reveal names involved in corruption – Cricket news
Former Sri Lanka captain Hashan Tillakaratne has said that he will reveal the names of the people involved in match-fixing in cricket, but only at an appropriate time.
The former player recently threatened to reveal some big names who were involved in wrong doings in the game since 1992. However, he has held the names back on legal grounds.
Tillakaratne said, “I have consulted my lawyers and based on legal issues I was advised not to reveal the names of players whom I said would reveal. I am not afraid and I will not bow down to threats. I will reveal the names at the appropriate time.”
The 43-year-old further added, “I have been getting nuisance calls throughout last week. I surely can suspect that there are political figures behind this to stop me from going into the public with the names.”
According to Tillakaratne, the Sri Lankan cricket authorities and politicians were corrupt and were responsible for the entire situation created today. He further revealed that some former players wanted to unearth the corruption in the national team, but
were silenced by the pressure of the politicians.
There were mixed reactions worldwide following the allegations from the former cricketer. Star Sri Lankan batsman, Mahela Jayawardene was not pleased with the situation and demanded evidence from Tillakaratne.
Jayawardene’s words were echoed by teammate Kumar Sangakkara who also suggested the former player to act with responsibility and work with the concerned authorities in Sri Lanka and with the International Cricket Council.
