Stand-in South African skipper Hashim http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamisi-Abdallah-c61368 has expressed disappointment at his team’s recent shocking 29-run defeat at the hands of underdogs Zimbabwe, in the third match of the ongoing Twenty20 triangular series at the Harare Sports Club on June 20.
Prior to the tri-series, the South African team received a lot of flak for their participation in an unofficial series against minnows Bangladesh and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, with former South African selector Hugh Paige insisting that he was amazed at the team’s decision
to “play against two lowly-ranked sides prior to going to England”.
Amla had also struggled to find value in the series, claiming that the team were fairly confident about performing well.
“We are kind of expecting that [to win],” Amla had said prior to the commencement of the series. “But in the T20 format, teams that are not so well known can perform really well too. But, we are expecting to perform well.”
However, the 3rd match held a shocking turnaround for the tourists – South Africa are ranked at number two on the ICC’s T20 rankings, but struggled visibly against the Rhodesians.
“Both the batting and bowling has a lot of work to do, we gave away at least 20 too many runs,” admitted Amla. “Batting first here is the better call but we did not play well today.”

Following his dismal 0 for 61 against Bangladesh, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Ontong-c1704 bowled a single over during which he bled 14 runs.
The batsmen were similarly lacklustre, failing in what should have been a relatively manageable chase of 177. Amla himself fell at 11 in the 3rd over, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-Alexander-Ingram-c51381 remained the highest scorer for his side, with 48. Ontong (4) and Jean-Paul
Duminy (6) were both unremarkable, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JA-Morkel-c1613 was disappointing with both bat and ball, and registering figures of 3-0-26-0, and contributing only 10 runs to the total.
The Proteas will be looking to pull their act together in order to avoid another humiliating defeat as they prepare to take on Bangladesh once again in their next match, scheduled to take place at the same venue on June 22.
