Hashim Amla gives up records for team – Cricket News Update

Hashim Amla, the South African top-order batsman, is over the moon to have put his team in a commanding position with his extra-ordinary innings in the first of the three-match Test series at the Oval against England.

The 29-year-old batted brilliantly in South Africa’s first innings, astonishing cricket fans with some breathtaking stroke-play and incredible powers of concentration. The elegant right-handed batsman scored 311 runs without getting dismissed, which came
off 529 balls and included 35 boundaries.

Amla become the first Proteas cricketer to have scored a triple century at the ultimate level of the game, surpassing the previous South African best of 278 not out, which was scored by AB de Villiers against Pakistan in United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2010.

The cricketer from Natal has put his team in a winning position, South Africa being the favourites to go 1-0 up in the series by taking the remaining six England wickets on the last day of the match.

Amla is delighted to see his team in such a wonderful position and is not too much concerned about the personal milestone.

The pundits have been all praise for Amla’s application, who expressed that he did not want to throw away the good start, after seeing off the dangerous period, when the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad were bowling brilliantly with the new ball.

"The biggest pleasure is that we are in a really dominant position to win this position, that's the great joy. You want to contribute handsomely to the team. I try not to get into the psycho-babble about it and try and maximise opportunity," said Amla.

The right-handed batsman further added that he never sets goals in his career, which helps him play freely without taking any kind of a pressure. Amla however, is delighted to have scored a historic knock, which helped his team’s cause.

"I didn't ever dream about getting 300, although I would have loved to," the great batsman said. "I've always been the kind of person to never set goals. Fortunately, that means you can keep going without being limited by having set something up."
