Hashim Amla is a natural leader, says Robin Peterson– Cricket News Update
South African spinner, Robin Peterson has praised stand in skipper, Hashim Amla, stating that he is a natural leader.
Amla will lead the Proteas side in the absence of injured skipper, AB De Villiers, who was ruled out of action for a month, nursing a broken finger while training for his club outfit, Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Despite the stand in skipper not known for his leadership qualities, Peterson feels that the 28-year –old will add his own uniqueness to the role, when the side takes on a strong Kangaroo contingent.
"He is a natural leader. Whether he captains or not, he always leads from the front. He's one of those guys that quietly goes about his business," Peterson said. "Everyone's different and unique. They do things their way and Hashim will do it his way and that's important if he's going to do well at this level."
Peterson performed well in the recently concluded Champions LeagueT20 tournament for his domestic side Cape Cobras, picking up 4 wickets, while going at under 7 runs per over. His will be keen on improving when he takes the field for the national team.
“I do try to mix things up against different players. Sometimes quicker, sometimes more flight. It's about adapting," said Peterson.
The series against the Australia starts with the team locking horns in the first of two T20’s played at Cape Town. Apart from the spinner performing well in the CLT20 campaign, there were others in their opponent’s contingent, which set the tournament alive with some whirlwind knocks.
David Warner and Shane Watson, the New South Wales openers, in particular will be the main threat for the Proteas bowling lineup. While the former amassed two stupendous centuries in the tournament, the latter was subdued and will look to return to form.
However, Peterson believes the Australian team has quite a few match-winners and will be a tough side to beat. "There's not only Warner and Watson, there's like six or seven players that can take the game away from you" he said. "We're not only focusing on the opening pair," added the spinner.
