The South African batting great, Hashim Amla, has a tough assignment ahead of him as he gears up to Captain the Proteas squad in their upcoming home-series against the Australians, after the nation’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) Skipper,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, failed to make it to the ranks after suffering from a hand fracture.
The news was confirmed by the South African Coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527, who revealed Amla’s new appointment to the African newspaper ‘Beeld’, on Friday, this week.
“It is always difficult when you lose a world-class player like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726,” Kirsten told the paper. “I feel sorry for him. He was so excited about his opportunity to lead the team.”
The mishap occurred during a practice session for his Champions League (CL) T20 outfit, Royal Challengers Bangalore, where Villiers broke his finger.
Soon after the player’s injury, South African Team Manager, Dr. Mohammed Moosajee, confirmed that Villiers will be ruled out for at least six weeks, due to a surgery.
“The hand specialist found that AB (de Villiers) fractured the hand bone (metacarpal) of his middle finger,” confirmed Moosajee.
The manager also revealed that the specialist has advised for an immediate surgery in order for the rehabilitation process to begin as soon as possible.
As for the series against the down under team which kicks off on October 13, Kirsten feels that his squad will have to perform at its best in order to mark a win against the Aussies.
However, the Coach also reminded that while his side has not been engaged in international cricket since the last World Cup, the Australian team will be landing in South Africa after a just-concluded, successful tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
On the other hand, Kirsten was also relieved that despite not getting a chance to play International cricket, some of the Proteas players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Botha-c1610 had kept themselves busy with the CLT20.
However, not just the players, but Kirsten too will have to remain wary for the Proteas’ performance since the home series comes as the Coach’s first assignment with the South Africans, after spending a triumphant tenure with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, which included a World
Cup win for the Men in Blue.
