Hassaan Abdel-Khalik seizes Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day two – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Hassaan Abdel-Khalik of ESWIM seized gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Friday, July 20.
Abdel-Khalik remained prominent over his challengers throughout the two-lap freestyle discipline and proved his eligibility for the crown.
The 20-year-old Abdel-Khalik demonstrated his astonishing efforts as he made his way to the finishing blockade with the timing of 50.91 seconds for gold medal.
His stupendous struggle remained 0.07 seconds ahead of Luke Peddie of OSC and Kelly Aspinall of VAND, who involved each other in a neck-to-neck race for second position.
The duo displayed their meticulous efforts in the final lap but failed to escape each other over the finishing blockade for second position as they settled on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing an identical time of 50.98 seconds.
The pair of second position holders was chased by Jake Tapp of LOSC, who remained just 0.10 seconds slower from his former finishers and tapped the wall with the timing of 51.08 seconds for fourth position.
Similarly, Tapp was trailed by Omar Mahmoud Arafa of Oak, who stayed just one stroke slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and completed his swim in fifth best place by producing a time of 51.38 seconds.
Arafa faced tough battle from Joel Greenshields of U of A Swim Club, but with his exhausting efforts managed to outperform him over the finishing wall.
The 24-year-old Greenshields remained only 0.02 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 51.40 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh finest spot of the race was secured by David Woodman of UCSC, who suffered a loss of 0.17 seconds from his former finisher and clocked a timing of 51.57 seconds.
Woodman was chased by Chris Manning of WRMS, who stayed only 0.02 seconds slower and hit the wall with the timing of 51.59 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Abdel-Khalik was contented with his gold claiming effort and articulated that he would try to sustain his position at the upcoming tournaments.
