Hassaan Abdel-Khalik seizes Men’s 200m freestyle: Day one – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Hassaan Abdel-Khalik of ESWIM seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on foremost day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Thursday, July 19.
The crowd was astonished with the blistering performance of Abdel-Khalik in the playoff, as he finished sixth fastest in the preliminary rounds of the event.
With his epic pace and start, he devastated hopes of his challengers and secured top position of the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 49.82 seconds.
His gold claiming effort remained 0.35 seconds ahead of Chad Bobrosky of CASC, who followed him on the finishing end as second position holder by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 50.17 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Jeremy Bagshaw of Island Swimming, who stayed just one stroke apart and made his way to the medal rostrum for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 50.34 seconds.
Bagshaw was chased by his teammate, Stefan Hirniak, who stayed just 0.10 seconds slower from him over the finishing end and secured fourth position of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 50.44 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Aly Abdel Khalik of ESWIM, who stayed just 0.03 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 50.47 seconds.
The 17-year-old Abdel-Khalik was followed by Stefan Milosevic of HYACK, who stayed one and a half body length behind and secured sixth position of the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 51.74 seconds.
Subsequently, Milosevic was chased by Keegan Zanatta of Island Swimming, who stayed almost half body length apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 52.37 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Teddy Kalp of NYAC, who remained only 0.03 seconds behind and ended his race with the timing of 1 minute and 52.40 seconds.
Furthermore, Abdel- Khalik was very happy with his title-claiming effort in the 200m event.
