Hatching chicken eggs?

Question

we own Buff Orpington hens and they are about to start laying eggs. can someone tell me if they are good mothers or not? will they hatch their own eggs or not? We also have red star hens and they aren't really good mothers because they don't sit on the eggs.

also, what should the temp. be for chicken eggs in a homemade incubator? how often should we turn the eggs?
