Question:

Hating the police?

As a kid growing up I've heard about so much police brutality to black people? Maybe it's a combination of movies and media. Plus, police will sometimes follow my black parents, and I can't help but feel it's because of their race. It doesn't matter what race, religion, age, s*x of the police officer, in general I just kind of hate them. Even though, I know that there are good cops. Is this normal? I can't help but feel so much anger and resentment when I see a policeman, policewoman?

  1. Yes it's okay to hate cops for their brutatily.

  2. Well....have you ever considered this?

You see police and feel anger. This comes across in your body language - posture etc. The police see this. A hostile attitude toward them....is usually a sign that something ain't right.  So....they pay extra attention to you and maybe follow you.

They are not following you because of your skin color - but rather because of your attitude. So, you get more angry.....attitude/posture etc gets worse....red flag picked up by pd gets bigger and ....yep...you end up getting followed again.  Cycle goes on and on.

You are creating your own problem.

And no....anger toward another person (police officer or not) is not normal. You are mad because you think they are judging you based solely on your skin color. You are no better than they are. You are judging them based solely on the job they hold. How they earn a living and support their family.

    So, get over it.

Call your local police department -- see if they have a ride along program. You may actually learn something.

  3. My parents didn't like cops. (They called them names when they saw them) So that's why i became one. lol

  4. I hate the police for a different reason. SPEED TRAPS. As for racist cops, black cops are some of the most racist out there against blacks.

  5. Sorry to hear that. You know, sometimes the police follow me and I am white and a retired cop. Why don't you try something. Depending on your age, I think you have to be 18 in most places, go on a ride along. Go to your local department and ask if they have a ride along program. If you are a female, ask for a female officer. This may make you more comfortable. Maybe even ask for an officer of your own race. Then, talk to her about her job, why she does this work and if you feel comfortable, your own feelings. Though I would suggest getting to know the officer a bit first. Maybe you will come up with a different point of view. Maybe, you will find that becoming a police officer would be a good career for you and you could make a serious contribution to your community.

    Good luck

  6. Well i hope that one day you do not need them. My family home was on fire and it was an officer who pulled me out. I guess i am just not the type to judge all cops because there are some bad apples out there. i sure hope people do not judge you like that!!

  7. No, hating an entire class of people (hundreds of thousands of which you will never meet) because of a "feeling" isn't normal nor is feeling "anger and resentment" when you see a police officer...

Swap "police officer" for "jew" (or any other group including African-Americans that has been hated for no reason) and you'll see how screwed up yourt feelings are...

  8. Get over it, and yourself. Do exactly what another poster said-substitute the words police officer and put in another group that is hated for no reason. Then reassess your feelings. You'll see exactly how messed up your way of thinking actually is!

  9. So it's okay for you to hate an entire group of people, based on the actions of a very small minority, but it's wrong if the cops do?

  10. Yes it is normal to hate cops juut go to http://www.badcopnews.com and you will see why cops a hated.

  11. I don't want to downplay your feelings, but have you stopped to consider what YOU have against them?  I mean, you say it's based upon what you heard (did you hear both sides of the story?), because your parents are being followed (police don't just randomly follow people btw) and you "feel" it's because of their race.

It just seems that you are basing your feelings on nothing but innuendo and what you imagine their reasonings are.

If it's really bothering you, then why not go meet a few cops somewhere?  Go volunteer at the police station, go introduce yourself to the cops that patrol your area.  You might just be suprised.

Base your feelings on actual experience.  I think you'll find it will set your mind at ease :)

  12. in your case I would say it is normal due to circumstantial environmental learned  conditioning.

I used to want to be a cop until i started watching COPs on TV and having been on ride a longs seeing how Police treat citizens WOW.  It takes a lot to get me to distrust them since I was educated in Criminal Justice Degree plus being a police explorer etc.  Yet I understand you completely.

    Good Luck
