My desktop computer when hardwired to the modem dowloads at only 200 to 400 kbps. When done wirelessly through a router, it goes up to 1500 kbps. My laptop goes to 6500 kbps wirelessly; my desktop used to download the same up until about 3 months ago.

I bought a new hard drive becuase I had issues and hoped it would fix the problem but it did not. I'm doing speed tests through speakeasy.com and through the program I bought a couple of days ago called System Mechanic.

  1. first of all, i am pretty sure that you aren't getting 1500 kpbs, because of you were you wouldn't be complaining.  thats more than 1MB a second, over the internet.  thats unheard of.

and, its probably because your router has a signal booster in it, and your ethernet cable doesn't.

  2. Yes that's what happene when you download. When you start it goes to top speed than slows down than speed up a gain. Just like 2500. When other take it its like 2500 x 10.
