Have 30 y/o oil furnace. Need more efficient system. Which fuel/furnace type is best? Finances are limited.

  1. My local paper had figures on average costs. Gas cost 3/4 to 1/2 of the cost of electric and  oil was almost double the electric.

    So here, natural gas will cost 1/3 to 1/4 of oil, at current prices.

    A gas furnace will pay for itself in not too many years at that rate.  


  2. If you live in the northern states, I would consider natural gas if that is available. A heatpump is a very efficient system but it depends on your location because it will not put out the heat you were use to with oil...

  3. If you $$$$ is limited <<natural gas forced air is best.....  other than that.   Gas fired hot water base board is the all over cheapest....
