Have 89 jag with stiff brake peddle need help?

  1. Check to see if there is a crimp in the brake fluid line somewhere. Also check the action of the master cylinder that it is not gummed up somehow. Also check the quantity and condition of the brake fluid. Someone may have  added improper fluid. There is a rubber(?) bushing on the front of the master cylinder piston that may have swollen, increasing friction.

    If the brakes work well, they  may be  adjusted too tight.


  2. check the vacuum line to the brake booster that its not leaking or kinked.  if its as stiff with the engine on as it is with the engine off after you pump the pedal a few times and the vacuum hose is ok its probably a booster problem- but it would be very unusual.
