Have Dell Opti Plex Gx

Have Dell Opti Plex Gx 150 computer with Windows XP operating system and when I type on the keyboard, different characters appear on the page. Have changed to a different keyboard, checked the Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel (says English) and checked several forums and nothing works. Can you help?
