Question:

Have I found a loophole in betting on football at the bookies?

I think I have worked out a sure way of not losing bets on football at the bookies, and still have a chance of winning...is this possible?

The team for football games generally gets announced an hour before the game, but in most cases you know whos playing anyway. You purposely bet on a player to score first whos not starting but on the bench, and who you think will come on as a sub and score. Some players are famous for being 'super-subs' and coming on and scoring. Say you put on a £10 bet. Whenever Ive put a bet on a player to score first and they dont start the game- you just get your money back. If the scores 0-0 and your player comes on as a sub and scores, you get your winnings anyway. As long as you know your players not starting you cant lose. If he comes on and scores - you win. Why not put a grand on someone like alves who wasnt starting games for Middlesbrough last season, but can come on and score? Fair enough you might need to do it every week for a while....

  1. I guess JohnnyOn has put it most clearly

    To those people who think betting markets are infallible, here is one I did earlier;

You may be interested in this story which illustrates just how blind punters and bookies can be.   On Saturday just after midday on 3 August 1996 I called in the local bookies for a rest, as I had been shopping on my bike and the betting shop was half way up an incline, which I usually negotiated by walking part of the way.  On the screen was betting for 2 races due to be run on the following day, Sunday, and I noticed that Sea Victor in a field of 9 runners running at Chester was quoted at 14-1.  I had backed it 2 days earlier when I had been at Goodwood and it had run a good third so that I knew it must be running off the same rating.  I put on all the money which I had in my pocket which was about £7 odd and biked home to get some more.  I went in another 2 branches of the same bookies locally to back it again as I thought there was a chance I might not get paid if it won (palpable error), so I was kind of spreading the risk, because by this time I realized that the prices which were on offer for this race at Chester were exactly the same prices as were on the screen for the other Sunday race, 4-10 Newcastle, in which there were 10 runners, but that in the Chester race these had been RANDOMLY allocated, such that the eventual favourite, Top Cees whose SP on the day was 13-8 was actually quoted at 8-1.  I came back home and studied the form and eventually backed 3 horses for the race, Candle Smile being the other, which was also quoted at a wrong price but not so much so.  The point is that these prices remained on the screen in about 20 shops of the chain all day long and even through the Saturday evening meeting, as I put my last bet on Sea Victor at 8.30pm, so nobody had significantly noticed all day.

The next morning however the prices were revised, and Sea Victor won the race by a neck at 6-1 the same price as the revised morning price.  Top Cees, about 9-4 morning price, and Candle Smile were both unplaced.

  2. cool.....if this works out we can do 50-50....:P

  3. id keep this to yourself if I were you, if the betting industry finds out they wont let you place bets. Oh, and fyi, betfair is much better than a bookies, you get better odds most times.

  4. what about when he comes on and doesnt score... you dont get your money back then...

  5. You won't get paid if he doesn't start.  It's a 'No Action' bet if the player doesn't start.  This means you will get a refund whether or not he scores.

  6. your wrong, if the player comes on in the eightieth minute and does not score you lose, bye bye to your grand.

  7. I think the bookies would have seen the scope for this fraud long ago.

The type of bet you describe is a correct score and scorer forecast, where you name the scorer of the first or last goal, and the final score after 90 minutes.

If there is a dispute over a player not being included in the team, a bookie may be willing to settle the bet just on the correct score, or cancel the bet. Arbitration in betting matters is usually through the Racing Post or the Sporting Life, since bets are not legally binding, the courts won't touch betting disputes. Therefore the bookie does not legally have to pay even a genuine winning bet, so they are hardly likely to cough up where the punter is being less than honest.

  8. Thought this question was about football not soccer.  But, If it works go for it.

  9. haha, nice one.

  10. You have not found anything of the sort.

The player has to score first when he eventually does

come on to play, all you are doing is prolonging your

    bet.

I take it you,ve just started gambling.     (the people who compile the odds nowadays are much more intelligent than your system or anyone elses for that matter)

  11. If he comes on and doesn't score then you lose!

the best option is to find a game where the bookies are split over who will win.

Say Ladbrokes are giving 5/6 on Manchester and 3/1 on Chelsea but WillHill are giving 4/1 on Manchester and 3/10 on Chelsea then you back Chelsea to win at Ladbrokes and Manchester to win at WillHill.  If you can find another bookie offering a decent price for a draw then you can't possibly lose, whatever the result.

  12. Sorry to disappoint you - you get your money back if there is a goal scored before he comes on or if he doesnt come on at all . If he comes on in the 80th minute when score is 0-0 and another player scores a goal, then he is active when first goal is scored and therefore your bet stands.

  13. are you 100% sure that you get your money back if he dosent start?

    i dont think so...

but if your sure ,well done

also,if the player does come on and dosent score, then your screwed

    so really its still 50-50

  14. If the player you have bet on is a substitute who then comes on and doesn't score and you stilll get your money back.

    and If

He does come on and score's the first goal and the bookies still payout.

    WHY HAVE YOU TOLD EVERYONE???

Well done for finding a loophole if it's true, they do exist, I've found things like that before, you should milk it and tell no-one.

There are plenty of people who will tell you that you can't win gambling etc etc, the truth is that those people are usually Women or mug punters who have done all their cash on stupid bets.

  15. Firstly, in practice there is no way of finding any loophole in any betting market. Simply because there are extremely intelligent software systems out there that check every single betting website for arbitrage several times a sec and excellent brains that have thought all possible combinations of winning a stake.

Secondly you'd rather bet a grand on something that you think is likely to happen and even better when you can lock your profit (e.g. betting exchange markets). Do not underestimate the probability of a sub player coming into the game on the (t) minute and not scoring a goal. Your grand will be then a lesson to remember for ever.

  16. and of course, if he comes on as sub in the 10th minute and somebody else scores - YOU LOSE.

Trust me, there are no loopholes!
