Have I got all the right stuff to apply for an India tourist visa??

Hi,

I am sending my application for a visa to India (tourist) in the post and I am really confused as to whether I have the right stuff.

I have the following:

Passport

2 x passport photos

£30 fee

£6.90 = 17.5% service charge fee ( =£8.11)

A SAE special delivery envelope for returing the passports.

I dont have a referee in India - I am a tourist so dont know anyone and have not booked any hotels yet...does this matter?

This is really stressing me out, I am practically in tears...please can someone tell me I have the right stuff.

I am flying out on 11.08.08 - does this leave enough time to get it or would I just be better goping to the consulate in Birmingham or London and getting it....can I get it the same day.

Help!!!!!

  1. If your that worried go and do it yourself...thats what I did. Get to the consulate early and be prepared for a wait. You'll be there for a few hours but you'll get your visa and peace of mind.

  2. first double check the indian high commission website as

there has been some talk of a change - but not sure when.

i would advise you go in person - you don't want your passport lost. get there early - you don't really need a referee

jst google a hotel near to the airport you are staying at

    and put that down.

have all your documents ready and the right amount of money

    - smile it getsyou a long way even at the high commission

  3. Why are you worried?. I have taken many visas for India. If you are still in England ,then just go to any indian consulate and submit your application, asking them to return your passport by post as you got you special delivery envelope already. I wouldn't advice you to send your application by post.Usually they get your visa ready within 4 working days.

    Best of luck

  4. Hi

You do have all the right stuff though you don't mention the form - here's a link to it just in case:

They have never asked me for the India referees so I wouldn't worry about that.

Personally I would recommend going in person rather than sending your passport off. In my experience they leave it right to the last minute to send it back and sometimes even then you end up having to pick it up yourself. You get the visa back the same day providing you arrive at the consulate at least an hour before it opens and you wouldn't have to pay the service fee either.

Have a day out in London afterwards, the visa place is right by Covent Garden, have a great time in India. x
