Question:

Have I got the London apartment?

On the weekend I paid a deposit of 500 for an apartment. The owner, through the agent, accepted the offer and signed some papers.

However, the property is still being advertised through other agents. I think the owner might be stalling to get a better offer.

This is bad for me, because I've already given notice to leave my current rental property.

As I've paid the deposit, is the apartment mine?

  1. Yes I'd imagine its yours, did you sign a contract?  Perhaps the agent hasn't updated the adverts.  I wouldn't worry, phone the agent for reassurance.  You have rights remember.

  2. It does depend on the terms of the contract that you have signed. I think you need to check it. It is quite usual for landlords to keep advertising, even pre-advertise. There may be a clause for you to change your mind and the landlord is covering in case it falls through. He wants a tenant as quick as posssible because it is money to his investment.
