The MD is coming across to my office next week to see what my plans are like for launching a service department/support department. Trouble is, I have listed a number of items and the direction I think the department should progress in but it will only take an hour or so to discuss but he has scheduled a whole day for the dicussion. How do I spin this one out?

  1. I think you are really going to have to drag each point out, offering long explanations and examples.

Ask what he/she thinks of each point and have a nice long discussion about it.

When you run out of things to say tell them that you thought the last part of the day should be dedicated to any questions they have for you - that'll put them on the spot and if they have nothing more to ask/ add, then they can suggest finishing the meeting early and you won't look bad.

    Hope it goes well

  2. take them to lunch and get them drunk then go bowling :-)
