im not really sure whether my ankle is sprained or not. i know that it's really hard to walk on and your ankle can't support your weight. but my ankle has swollen up quite a bit. and it immediately swelled up after i was tackled qutie badly by my brother [idiot]. its definitely swollen and i do get quite a bit of pain when i walk, but i can definitely walk on it. is my ankle sprained, or is it a minor sprain?

  1. its sprained since its swollen, just put ice whenever you can and it will go back to normal, lost of rest too. dnt put too much pressure, and tell your brother to stop tackling you. lol

  2. It definitely seems sprained at the least. I doubt it is broken but you should get an x-ray just to make sure. better safe than sorry! oh and get crutches, which i'm sure they doctors will give you even if its a minor sprain to get your weight off of it! good luck xo

  3. If you can walk on it then its probably just swelled up, i recommend putting some ice on it for a day or two and if it is still swelled by the third day you may have a sprain..

  4. well u need to go to the hospital and find out but if i had to guess i would say its just something that u can suck up

  5. it could just be twisted or rolled or even a minor sprain... ice it and take some ibuprofen

  6. It's definitely sprained honey. If you lay your feet out and compare, you'll be able to tell. If you have to look close to see that there is just a little puffiness, its minor. If you can't even tell you have an ankle bone because it looks like you have baseball stuck in there, you definitely twisted and sprained. (happened to me before, ouch.) Here are a few other questions to see how bad it is:

Did it feel sort of heavy after your bro tackled you? If so, its definitely sprained.

Can you stand of both feet and even the balance? If not, again, sprained pretty bad.

Have someone put their hand against the back of your foot. Can you push against it? What directions can you not push that you normally should be able to? If it hurts to twist or anything, sprained.

If you have any of these signs, it twisted/sprained. Here's what you can do to help it heal faster:

Anytime you have the chance, elevate your foot on a soft pillow. Put some ice on it, then transition to heat. These sort of packs that can be freezed or heated are sold at Wal - Mart.

Take some Aleve to bring down the swelling.

Whatever kind of sports you do, you'll have to miss a few weeks. Sorry :(

When you do walk, make sure you put it in a brace. Drug stores and pharmacies can help you find a good fit cheaper than a doctor. Never wrap it in athletic tape though. Too much pressure.

Just to be on the safe, get an x-ray to make sure nothing is broken.

Rest up and get better soon!! :)

  7. Cold and hot compression is in order but get a MRI and X' Ray done if compressions does not give relief.

  8. if you can rotate your ankle in a circle, its not sprained

  9. I would say it is sprained. Put your food up prop it up. Then alternate heat and ice for the next few hours. Good luck Tell your brother to be nicer next time

  10. its probably a minor sprain.

just prop it up on a few pillows to elevate it.

and set an ice pack on it for 15 minutes.

then take it off for 5 and place it back for 15.

    after the swellin goes down,

    try walking on it.

pressure will be good for it.

    i hope you feel better!!

    :)

  11. Hard to say without seeing it.

Put ice on it, use an ACE bandage, stay off it as much as possible, use crutches, and keep it elevated and see a doctor about it as soon as you can.

  12. have you sprained your ankle?

    I dunno, have you?

  13. go to the Doctor

  14. It sounds like a sprain, but wether it is a sprain or not you should definitely keep off of it. A helpful acronym is R.I.C.E.

    - you should Rest it

    - Ice your ankle for 30 minutes then take it off 30 minutes and repeat process for as long as you want

    - Compress, keep a wrap on it

    - Elevate, keep off of it and when you sit.. keep it level with your waist if not higher

The best thing is to go to a doctor. i hope you feel better.

  15. If it's swollen that much I think you should go see a doctor! Hope it'll be okay.

  16. if it stayed swollen then you could have twisted it or misplaced a bone.I think its seriouse in my opinion. anything that you cant use thats a part of your body should be seriouse. You need to describe how you fell. I can look into this later.
