Question:

Have I wiped my videos? Help!?

I have a sony video camera at work which takes mini DVD-RWs. I've tried viewing them in my computer and just got a call from my colleague telling me not to do that as he hasn't finalised them and he's heard doing so could wipe them.

I tried viewing them with Realplayer and nothing happened....is it possible I've wiped them?

I'll find out tomorrow when I put them in the camera, but need your reassurance to help me sleep tonight! The footage is pretty much irreplaceable....

  1. If the dscs have not been finalized, you would not be able to easily play them, which is why you were not able to view anything using RealPlayer. If you ONLY tried to play them, the chances that you damaged the discs or video are slim.

There are some DVD video recovery tools - ISOBUster is one - that you should probably consider. HandBrake (for ripping the video from the finalized DVD) is another...

I'd say you are OK to sleep soundly.
