Has now stopped working completely. When it stopped it emitted a lot of smoke. Thinking oil may have leaked...blown head gasket. Took to repair shop. What would be cost of repair? Is 5 years old, mow 2 1/2 acres per week. Use for hauling in trailor, rocks, gravel and topsoil. Will the cost of repair be worth or should consider a new mower.

  1. spark plugs,

    emissions,

    muffler plus chk oil too.

you may need a new mower maybe not.

sounds like a major tune up is needed.

  2. Is it oil smoke or fuel smoke?  Usually oil smoke is lighter in color.  Fuel is dark and smells like unburned gas.  If it is fuel it could be a carburetor issue.  If it is oil it is most likely rings or a damaged pistion.  Have you checked the oil level?  You didn't overfill it?

  3. You paid pretty big bucks for this tractor new didn't you?  If you put a thousand into repairs, it would be cheaper than having a new tractor.  My question to you, is how can you do preventative maintenance more often and more effectively in the future.  I'm saying the tractor didn't get there by itself.
