Have you ever gone to your local SPCA and adopted a cat or dog? It's so sad to see all of them behind those cages. I adopted my last dog from there. But there was at least 4 more I would have loved to take home with me.

  1. Adopting a pet from the animal shelter or S.P.C.A. is always my first choice and recommendation. In fact, I just adopted my dog from the S.P.C.A. 10 days ago and it is the best choice that I could have made both for the dog and for my family. ^_^  There are SO many deserving companions out there that need homes and you can adopt just about any type of animal you can think of from a shelter. From horses to hamsters depending on your area.

  2. I adopted 2 of my cats at the humane society and yes, I felt like bringing them all home with me. It is very sad to see them all in these cages waiting for someone to choose them and give them a good home!

  3. I've adopted several animals, both cats and dogs, from the shelter over the years that have lived out their lives with our family.

Two of my current dogs came from rescues about 8 years ago, and two of our cats were from the Petsmart adoptions (ages 11 and 13).  Our other cats were abandoned and taken in, and our other dog was rehomed (a petfinder.com mutt who is just a big slobbery sweetheart).

The hardest part about adopting is wanting to take them all home, isn't it?  The best thing you can do is make donations to these terrific organizations, recommend other family and friends to adopt through them, or volunteer your own time.  I can't say enough positive things about no-kill shelters and rescues - you always get the best pets from tthem!
